To have children is a great privilege to be treasured. The one who gives us children expect that we give them what they want and protect them from all harm. Children need nutritious foods so that they are able to grow and develop well. This becomes a challenge with the prevalent foods allergens. But, you can work from the information available on preventing food allergies in children and give them the deserved protection.

Proteins are available in both animal and plant sources. A child, especially, needs protein from animal sources to support their growth. Animal protein from sources like milk, eggs and meat have the essential amino acids that are critical for growth. Even though food allergens are present mostly in animal proteins, they still remain the best. You can follow some tips on how effectively you can ensure your children do not miss out on these essential nutritious foods.

The little ones are very different even in the way they show effects of allergic reactions. Common signs that kids will show include swelling or rashes, vomiting or a cough and diarrhea. Some kids may have more than one of these signs. Regardless of what signs the child shows, the immediate remedy is to stop giving the dish that they are reacting to.

As a good practice, animal protein should be introduced to kids from age of six months. It is expected that at the onset of weaning, the children should be introduced to this reliable source of essential amino acids. However, only one delicacy should be introduced at a time. For example, you may want to introduce milk first, then maybe eggs, peanuts and so on and so on. The advantage of this is that you get to know the exact dish your child is allergic to. Thus, you can stop it and they still enjoy the other foods.

The best foods to introduce to your child first are peanuts and eggs. You must consider that at six months the child cannot take in very hard foods. So at least begin with eggs that are hard boiled. For peanut, the child is not able to swallow peanuts yet. They can choke. So, serve peanut butter creatively. You can include it with the cereal or have it in the applesauce you are serving the baby. Gradually, as the child grows, you can see what other foods to put the butter into like bread.

Your baby needs iron and you need to give foods rich in iron at least twice a day. Even though the cooked egg would help, you need to ensure you give iron-fortified infant cereal, some meat, poultry and fish. It is good to note that some of the best iron sources are also food allergens and so you need to introduce them cautiously.

There are no known dish types that can prevent reactions in kids. The best way is to watch out for reactions and withdraw the dish type. By taking at heart the advice shared above you will protect your child from the allergies.

If you are in doubt, please consult your pediatrician. The passion they have for helping kids will benefit you and your child. Any suspected reaction must be addressed as soon as possible. This is the only way to manage allergic reactions in little ones.
